LITTLE RIVER – It was over early as the Little River football team scored 32 first quarter points on their way to a 54-6 hammering of visiting Herington in Little River on Friday.

Braxton Lafferty scored twice in the first quarter on runs of 22 and 41 yards while Jayden Garrison plunged in for a score from one yard out and the Redskins team blocked a kick into the end zone to give them a commanding 32-6 first quarter advantage. The lone score of the evening for Herington came on a 72 yard kickoff return after the Redskins scored off the blocked kick.

Three Redskins put points on the board in the second quarter with Graham Stephens diving in from one-yard out before Garrison ran for a touchdown from 28 yards out and Rylan Konen finished off the scoring with a 10-yard jaunt. Little River converted six of seven two-point extra point conversions.

Little River only needed 27 plays to roll up 243 yards in total offense with 221 of them coming on the ground on just 18 carries, led by Braxton Lafferty who rambled for 109 yards on just nine carries while Stephens ran for 46 and Garrison for 42.

Defensively the Redskins held Herington to a meager 38 yards on 30 snaps of offense, including just eight yards rushing the ball on 23 attempts. Little River recorded seven tackles that resulted in a loss of yardage.

Graham Stephens and Braxton Lafferty led the Redskin defense with five and four tackles, with each recording a pair of tackles for losses.

With the victory, Little River is now 6-2 for the season as they prep for road game at Solomon on Friday, October 23. The Gorillas are 4-3 for the season after losing 66-0 to top-ranked Canton/Galva on Friday.
