CANTON – The Canton/Galva football team literally ran past visiting Solomon on Friday to score their eighth straight victory on the season, winning 66-0.

Thanks to three scoring runs of 37, 15, and 29 yards by Brayden Collins, the Eagles ran out to a 38-0 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Also scoring was Garrett Maltbie on a pair of scoring runs from 15 and 25 yards while Conner Koehn with help from Keaton Littrell tackled the Solomon runner in the end zone for a safety.

In the second quarter, Collins and Maltbie added scoring runs of 35 and 65 yards to the Eagles side of the scoreboard while Brandon Huff added a pair of scores on an 18-yard pass from Maltbie and a four-yard run.

The Eagles offense needed just 24 offensive plays to roll up 376 yards in total offense, or a whopping 15.7 yards for every time they snapped the ball, including 344 yards or 20.2 yards per run, and they did this while having the ball just six-and-a-half minutes.

Maltbie and Collins had huge games running the ball as they each carried the ball six times while rambling for 141 and 133 yards respectively between them. Brandon Huff also cracked 100 yards in offense as he ran for 70 yards on just five carries while catching both of Maltbie’s completed passes for another 32 yards.

Defensively it was lights out for the Eagles as they held the Gorillas to a miniscule 35 yards on 42 offensive plays, or just .83 yards per offensive attempt. Solomon only completed a pair of passes out of 12 attempts for just 16 yards while only covering 19 total yards on 30 rushing attempts.

The Eagles defense was led by Tyler Rummel who recorded 9.5 total tackles, including seven solo stops while Brandon Huff had 7.5 tackles which included six solo and two for a loss of yardage. Overall, the Eagles recorded 12 tackles that resulted in a loss of yardage for Solomon, including three by Conner Koehn and two by Ryder Norstrom.

The Eagles are now 8-0 for the season as they prep for their final game of the regular season on Friday, October 23 when they travel to Lincoln. Lincoln is 5-2 for the season after defeating Bennington 26-12 on Friday.
