LUCAS, AUTRY, SHARP, LYSELL-STEWART LEADS SMOKY VALLEY

By William

RUSSELL – A pair of touchdowns in the first and fourth quarters is all Smoky Valley needed on Friday on the road at Russell to close out their 2020 regular season with a 28-14 victory.

Haven Lysell-Stewart and Brandt Heble both caught scoring passes from Jake Lucas in the first quarter to give the Vikings a 12-0 lead that they held to the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Smoky Valley’s Trystan Stambaugh added a two-yard run for a score before Russell managed to get into the end zone on a pass play before the Vikings added another scoring run by Justice Autry to clinch the win despite Russell returning the ensuing kickoff back for another score.

The Viking victory was helped by an outstanding game from quarterback Jake Lucas who completed four-of-nine passes for 49 yards and a pair of scores while rushing for another 129 yards on 13 carries. The only weakness for Lucas came from his two interceptions.

Justice Autry contributed 73 yards running on 15 carries, while Austin Sharp led the Viking defense with 7 tackles that included two for loss of yardage and a quarterback sack. Haven Lysell-Stewart recorded 6.5 tackles which included 2.5 tackles that caused a loss of yardage for Russell while Trystan Stambaugh recorded three quarterback sacks. For the game, Smoky Valley recorded eight tackles for a loss of yardage and four quarterback sacks.
