CANTON – On Thursday evening, the Canton/Galva football team continued their march toward a possible second straight 8-Man Division I championship by devouring visiting Valley Falls with a 46-0 one-half victory.

The win raised the Eagles to 9-0 for the season and sets them up with a home matchup next Friday, November 6, with the Burlingame Bearcats who defeated Lincoln 46-28. The Bearcats will enter the game with a 7-2 mark for the season. It was two seasons ago that Burlingame appeared in Canton for a state playoff game, coming in unbeaten only to have the Eagles stop them cold with a huge win.

On Thursday, Brayden Collins scored three times on runs of nine and eleven yards in the first quarter and then on a 17-yard ramble in the second quarter while leading the Eagles with 74 yards rushing on just seven carries.

Tyson Struber caught two passes from Garrett Maltbie for touchdowns, covering 21 yards in the first quarter and 30 in the second quarter while finishing with three catches for 57 yards overall.

Maltbie scored the final touchdown of the game in the second quarter on a 17-yard run as he ran for 44 yards on four carries while also completing four of eight passes for another 65 yards.

For the game, Canton/Galva put 22 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter and another 24 in the second, including three 2-point conversion runs by Brandon Huff, one by Struber and the fifth on a pass from Maltbie to Struber.
