LUCAS LEADS SMOKY VALLEY

RILEY COUNTY – The Smoky Valley football team closed out their 2020 season with a 55-16 road loss to Riley County on Friday in their first game of the state playoffs. The loss dropped the Vikings to a final mark of 3-6 overall.

Jake Lucas provided the Vikings with their only two scores on a four-yard scamper into the end zone in the first quarter and an eight-yard dash in the fourth quarter. Lucas also ran for one two-point conversion while connecting with Haven Lysell-Stewart for the other.

Riley County scored three times in the both the first and second quarters to take a huge 48-8 advantage into the halftime break before both teams only managed a single score each in the second half.

When one looks at the stats, Smoky Valley had three more first downs than Riley County, 15-12 and ran 58 offensive plays to just 21 for the home team. Unfortunately, Riley County ran up 341 yards with a balanced attack of 170 yards rushing and 171 passing while the Vikings ran for 256 yards while only passing for three.

Smoky Valley had the only two turnovers in the game with a pair of lost fumbles.

Lucas led the Viking offense with 118 yards rushing on 15 carries while Justice Autry ran for 85 on 20 totes and Trystan Stambaugh had 53 yards on 16 carries.
