By William

The Little River football team made up for one their two losses during the regular season on Friday as they beat Clifton/Clyde 46-26 to advance to the 8-Man Division I state quarterfinals as regional champions.

With the win, the Redskins are now 8-2 for the season and will play host to Chase County on Friday, November 13 for a chance to reach the semi-finals. Chase County will come into the game with an 8-2 season record after beating previously unbeaten and seventh-ranked Sedan 56-18 on Friday.

Jayden Garrison put Little River up 14-0 by the end of the first quarter with scoring runs of 37 and one yard while also diving in for a two-point conversion.

Both teams scored twice in the second quarter with the Redskins earning points from a 17-yard pass play to Braxton Lafferty by Jayden Garrison and a 20-yard ramble by Garrison. That left Little River with a 28-12 advantage heading into the halftime break.

Garrison connected with Lafferty again for a Redskin score in the third quarter, this time covering 50 yards.

Little River put up two more scores in the final quarter of play on Garrison’s third scoring pass, this time to Graham Stephens covering 30 yards before Garrison found the end zone for his fourth rushing touchdown from 15-yards.

Both teams pushed the other offensively as the two teams combined for 813 yards in offense with Clifton/Clyde rolling up 402 yards of offense on 67 plays against the Little River defense while the Redskins had 411 total yards on 48 plays. Both teams kept the officiating staff busy as Little River was flagged eight times for 61 yards and Clifton/Clyde had seven flags thrown on them for 48 yards.
