BEAT BUHLER PRAIRIE HILLS, LOST TO HUTCHINSON

By William

The McPherson Middle School 8th grade girls basketball team has been busy the past four days as they earned two victories over Buhler Prairie Hills on Saturday but then lost an ‘A’ game only battle to Hutchinson on Tuesday.

Here is a recap of all three games played.

8th Grade ‘A’ Team Struggles in Loss to Hutchinson:

Playing an ‘A’ team game only on Tuesday, the McPherson Middle School 8th grade girls basketball team struggled on offense and lost 25-8 to Hutchinson.

Addie Harlin led the team in scoring with five points.

“It was a rough game for the ladies,” commented Head Coach TJ Jackson in his post-game reflections. “But we have a lot to learn from it. They have proven they can learn and grow from a poor performance and we do not expect anything different from this game. Josie Fitzmorris really deserves some kudos tonight as she gave a phenomenal effort and made it tough on their best player to get a lot done. Addie Harlin also helped on her and our posts scored all our points on the night.”

8th Grade ‘A’ Team Defeats Buhler Prairie Hills:

On Saturday, the McPherson Middle School 8th grade girls basketball ‘A’ team defeated Buhler Prairie Hills 33-25.

“It’s always a good day to beat Buhler,” noted Head Coach TJ Jackson. “We also couldn’t be happier with the improvement the ladies made from game 1 to game 2. We had just one day between games where we focused on the things which we did not do well previously, and the ladies came out and left no doubt they want to get better.”

Izabel Backhus led the team in scoring with 12, while Josie Fitzmorris pitched in with eight and both Cora Pavlovich and Addie Harlin each had five.

Coach Jackson concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “The ladies played great defense and not allowing easy buckets. We did not give up any fast break points because our ladies hustled to prevent that each time. Offensively, we spread the ball around very well and scored both inside and outside. These ladies have the ability to beat you at each point of the offensive side. We ran through our sets better today. Biggest focus will be continuing to maintain control of the pace of the game as we can not let the pressure make us feel like we must move fast and out of control. The girls have worked hard on being finishers around the rim and because of that we drew 18 fouls which put Buhler in foul trouble. We then went 13-of-21 at the line.”

8th Grade ‘B’ Team Nips Buhler Prairie Hills:

Also, on Saturday, the McPherson Middle School 8th grade girls basketball ‘B’ team also earned a victory over Buhler Prairie Hills by a score of 21-16.

“I am really happy with how the game went today and how well the ladies fought through every quarter,” explained ‘B’ team Coach Courtney Heinen. “The toughness I saw just shows the determination these girls have.”

Alivia Villalobos led the ‘B’ team in scoring with nine while Cora Pavlovich chipped in with six.

Coach Heinen finished her reflections by saying, “The ladies were aggressive on offense and did a great job attacking the backet. We have been working on staying spaced on our offenses and executing them. Defensively, the girls were tough and were able to adjust well. There were some height differences, but the girls did not let that phase them. They played tough, hustled, and did not allow too many easy buckets.”
