GARRISON TOTALS 339 YARDS IN OFFENSE TO LEAD REDSKINS

MADISON – For the first time since 2001, the Little River football team will be playing in a state championship game as they defeated previously unbeaten Madison 48-24 on the road Friday to qualify for the state 8-Man Division I State Championship game.

In a bit of irony, the team that Little River lost to in the 2001 state finals was Jetmore, who at that time was being coach by Kevin Ayers – the current Redskin Head Coach.

The Redskins will play in the 8-Man Division I State Championship next Saturday, November 28, in Newton where they will face the current number one team in the state, Leoti/Wichita County, who moved to 12-0 on the season after dominated Hoxie 58-6 on Friday.

In their game with Madison, Little River scored twice in the first quarter and once in the second quarter on a scoring run by Graham Stephens and a pair of touchdown runs by Jayden Garrison, to take a commanding 20-0 lead into the halftime break.

While Madison tried to make the game close in the third quarter by scoring twice, the Redskins added three more touchdowns to their side of the scoreboard on three scoring rumbles by Jayden Garrison that covered 26, 13, and 44 yards.

Both teams added another score in the fourth quarter as Little River went to the air for their final touchdown of the game when Garrison connected with Braxton Lafferty to make the final score 48-24.

For the game, Little River out gained Madison 400 yards to 315 despite having 10 fewer offensive plays.

Individually, Garrison dominated the game as he passed for 121 yards on five-of-seven passing while running for another 228 yards on 23 carries.

Garrison and Graham Stephens lead the Redskin defense as Garrison recorded 10 tackles and Stephens had 9.5.

Little River will now take a 10-2 overall record into next week’s state championship game where they will be challenged by a team similar to the Redskins who are led by the Jayden Garrison and Graham Stephens show while Wichita County is led by Kayde Rietzke and Jesse Gardner. Rietzke has passed for over 1,500 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for another 1,200 and 21 scores along with Gardner who has ran over 850 yards and another 13 touchdowns. Wichita County will come into the game averaging a bit over 47 points per game.
