EICHELBERGER, KAUFMAN SET TO LEAD MOUNDRIDGE CHARGE

MOUNDIRDGE – In the 2019-20 season the Moundridge Lady Wildcat basketball team struggled just a bit as they finished the season one game under .500 at 10-11 for the season although they did go 5-4 against teams in the Heart of America League (HOA).

Head Coach Vicky Kessler is looking forward to using her four returning starters, Kate Eichelberger, Kourtney Kaufman, Erin Durst and Kenzie Elmore in combination with five returning and new players to find the winning combination for a successful season.

Here is a season preview of the 2020-21 Moundridge Lady Wildcats:

OPENING 2 WEEKS OF THE SEASON:

  •  Open the season on Friday, December 4 at Elyria Christian
  • Tuesday, December 8 – host the Moundridge Pre-Season Tournament and will play Hillsboro
  • Thursday, December 10 – host the Moundridge Pre-Season Tournament and will play Inman
  • Friday, December 11 – host the Moundridge Pre-Season Tournament and will play Lyons

WHAT DOES COACH KESSLER BRING TO THE BENCH?

  • Head Coach Vicky Kessler will be in her sixth (6th) season as the head coach of the Lady Wildcats
  • Coach Kessler has an overall record of 92-28
  • In 2019-20 she led the Lady Wildcats to an overall record of 10-11 and a league mark of 5-4
  • Coach Kessler will be assisted by Lynn Eichelberger

WHO DOES RETURN FOR THE LADY WILDCATS?

The Lady Wildcats will return four (4) starters:

  • Erin Durst, a 5’4” senior who earned Honorable Mention All-HOA and averaged 8.0 points and 3.0 assists per game
  • Kourtney Kaufman, a 5’9” senior who earned 1st Team All-HOA and averaged 10.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game
  • Kate Eichelberger, a 6’0” junior who earned 1st Team All-HOA and averaged 11.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game
  • Kenzie Elmore, a 5’5” senior who averaged 3.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game

RETURNEES & NEWCOMER(S) THAT MAY SEE PLAYING TIME?

Among the newcomers that Coach Kessler is counting on to contribute are:

  • Alea Durst, a 5’4” senior
  • Myiah Logue, a 5’7” senior
  • Emma Blough, a 5’7” junior
  • Emily Durst, a 5’1” sophomore
  • Kindall Elmore, a 5’4” sophomore

WHAT COACH KESSLER IS SAYING ABOUT THE UPCOMING 2020-21 LADY WILDCAT SEASON?

  • “The Lady Wildcat’s schedule will be tough again this year, so the team will need to be ready to play day in and day out.”
  • “We have a nucleus of starters back from last season and a good core of underclassman ready to compete for some playing time.”
  • “Kate Eichelberger and Kourtney Kaufman led the team in scoring last year and I expect them to see others step up and add to this duo attack.”
  • “I am excited about the possibilities and am eager to see what this team will achieve with courage, commitment, and communication.”
  • “Our pre-season tournament always hosts strong competition, along with our HOA league competitors, and a solid mid-season tournament at Haven.”

TEAMS COACH KESSLER SEES AS TOP COMPETITORS IN 2020-21 SEASON:

  • In the HOA the top teams should be Sterling, Berean Academy, Inman, and Bennington.
  • In Class 2A, the top teams should be Sterling, Garden Plain, Halstead, and Hillsboro.
