BOUGHFMAN, RENKEN TO LEAD LITTLE RIVER GIRLS

By William

LITTLE RIVER – While the Little River Lady Redskins basketball team will be breaking in a new coach, the coach will only be new to the Lady Redskins as incoming Head Coach Brent Clark is a long-time coaching veteran who will be entering his 20th season at the helm of a high school program.

Coach Clark has had long runs at both Quivira Heights and Chase before coming to Little River where he will find just two starters returning, but a solid nucleus of girls to build a successful season around.

Leading the charge into the new season will be junior Lily Boughfman, who at six-foot-one, has developed into one of the top inside players in the area and maybe the state after putting up 8.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in 2019-20 as just a sophomore.

The other top returnee for the Lady Redskins will be Mekenzie Renken, also a junior, who is looking to make a major increase in her 2.6 points and 2.4 assists per game as a sophomore last season.

In his preseason reflections, Coach Clark has acknowledged that the Lady Redskins will be young this season as he may have several freshmen who could get some playing or even starting time along with a junior and three sophomores.

The Little River girls will open the 2020-21 season on Friday, December 4 at home when they host Lincoln before playing three games the following week as part of the Goessel Tournament and then closing out their pre-Christmas schedule on Tuesday, December 15 with Moundridge coming to town.
