BELL, PETERSON TO LEAD LADY EAGLES

By William

CANTON – It will be a new season with a new coach and new adjustments for the Canton/Galva girls basketball team in 2020-21.

Gone is Head Coach Shelby Hoppes who decided to step down after just two seasons.

Also gone is the Lady Eagles number one weapon for the past four seasons as Tia Moddelmog has graduated and taken her athleticism to Sterling College. Moddelmog was a four-year starter and tried to carry the team on her back in 2019-20 as the Lady Eagles finished with just a 9-13 record.

Also gone is Jayci Mastre, another multi-season team leader.

New is Head Coach Kim Krase and she comes into the program highly aware of what the team losses to graduation while still having an outlook of inspiration despite a lack of numbers for the upcoming season.

One player that Coach Krase will have to lead the Lady Eagles is senior Alexa Bell. Bell by far was an outstanding sidekick to graduated Moddelmog – during her sophomore season when she averaged 17 points per game. Unfortunately, in 2019-20, Bell missed nearly the entire season due to injuries.

The only other returning player Coach Krase will have is senior Emily Peterson who will be counted on along with sophomore Mimi Craig to supply the Lady Eagles with some heavy lifting under the basket.
