ROMERO LEADS 7TH GRADERS, BACKHUS TOPS 8TH GRADERS

HUTCHINSON – While the McPherson Middle School 7th grade girls basketball teams both scored wins on Thursday at Hutchinson, the 8th grade girls team took a loss.

Next up for both the 7th and 8th grade Junior Lady Pups will be on Monday, December 7 when they both play host to a battle with Clay Center.

Summary of the 7th and 8th grade Junior Lady Pups games:

7th GRADE JUNIOR LADY PUPS WIN DOMINATE 2 GAMES IN HUTCHINSON:

It was a continuation of winning for the 7th grade Junior Lady Pups as the ‘A’ team scored a 32-point, 44-12 victory over Hutchinson and the ‘B’ team nearly pulled an unusual shutout with a dominating 28-1 win.

In the ‘A’ game, seven Junior Lady Pups were able to get points by their name in the scorebook, led by a big double-digit day for Ava Romero with her 15 points. Both Brooke Doile and Adeylynne Strecker pitched in with eight while Addysen Patrick scored six. The victory gives the ‘A’ team an overall record of 9-2 for the season.

With the near shutout, the ‘B’ team also spread the scoring around as nine Junior Lady Pups put at least two points on the scoreboard, with Jhaidyn Brown leading the way with six while Lexi Gatica, Elley Paulsen, and Hannah Britting each scored four points apiece. With the win, the ‘B’ team now stands at 6-2 for the 2020 season.

‘B’ TEAM (WON 28-1) = Jhaidyn Brown – 6; Lexi Gatica – 4’ Elley Paulsen – 4; Hannah Britting – 4; Adelyn Barrow – 2; Andri McLeod – 2; Jasmyn Evans – 2; Smya Collins – 2; Addison Shaft – 2.

8th GRADE JUNIOR LADY PUPS TAKE A TUMBLE AGAINST HUTCHINSON:

It was a rough day for the 8th grade Junior Lady Pups as Hutchinson doubled up their scoring with a commanding 36-18 win in the ‘A’ team game. There was no ‘B’ game for the 8th grade girls.

Six Junior Lady Pups tried to keep up with Hutchinson by putting points by their name in the scorebook, with Izabel Backhus leading the way with five while both Cora Pavlovich and Arihanna Koehn each chipped in with four.

“I think the girls effort was strong,” noted Head Coach TJ Jackson in his post-game reflections. “We have areas to improve and I know they will work towards that and finishing these last few weeks strong.”
