BELL, CRAIG, TOEWS LEAD LADY EAGLES

By William

It was a rough night for a relatively young Canton/Galva girls basketball team as they made their 2020-21 season debut against Rural Vista on Friday evening and took a 19-point, 61-42 loss.

Along with breaking in a new head coach in Kim Krase, of the five Lady Eagles that put points on the scoreboard, two were seniors and three were just sophomores while one other senior and three freshman rounded out the season opening roster.

Senior Alexa Bell led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 15 points, while talented sophomore Mimi Craig also reached double digits with 13 and fellow sophomore Sage Toews just missed double digits with nine.

Senior Emily Peterson and Craig topped the team in working inside the paint as they both pulled down six rebounds, with each getting a pair on the offensive boards and the other four on the defensive end.

“The girls played as a team and never gave up,” pointed out first-year Head Coach Kim Krase in her post-game reflections. “They hit some big shots and played aggressive defense. I believe these girls will continue to grow with each other and improve as the season progresses.”

The Lady Eagles will return to the competitive hardwood next week as they participate in the Goessel Bluebird

CANTON/GALVA LADY EAGLES INDIVIDUAL SCORING:
