GARRISON LEADS REDSKINS WITH 26

By William

LITTLE RIVER – Less than a week after winning the state 8-Man Division I State Championship in football, the Little River Redskin boys reprogrammed themselves to basketball and buried Lincoln at home in their 2020-21 season debut, 69-26.

The game was never in doubt as the Redskins ran out to a 20-point, 28-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and then took a 30-point, 48-18 advantage into the halftime break before cruising in for the final 43-point victory.

The Little River defense was solid as they held Lincoln to zero points in the final quarter while giving them just 25 opportunities the entire game to take a shot, of which they only made 10. The domination came in the fact the Redskins stifled the Lincoln offense by making 14 steals and dominating the Lincoln backboards with 16 defensive rebounds while allowing the visitors just one offensive rebound.

Less than a week after dominating the football championship game, senior Redskin Jayden Garrison kicked off his basketball season with a 26-point effort that included four three-pointers.

While Garrison may have led the team in scoring, Trey Rolfs may have had the best stat page as he dropped in 14 points, handed out four assists, led the team in rebounds with six while also making four steals. Braxton Lafferty chipped in with a dozen points and five rebounds as well.

In the junior varsity boys game, Little River also dominated by winning 69-23. There was no Little River girls game due to a situation caused by the coronavirus.

Next up for the Little River boys will be on Monday, December 7, when they tangle with Canton/Galva as part of the Goessel Bluebird Classic.
