MCPHERSON – On Monday, the McPherson Middle School 8th grade girls basketball teams hosted and tangled with Clay Center, winning the ‘B’ game but losing by just two points in overtime in the ‘A’ game.

In the ‘A’ game, the 8th grade Junior Lady Pups played hard and took Clay Center into overtime only to lose a heartbreaker by just a single bucket, 28-26.

Cora Pavlovich had a huge game as she dominated the Junior Lady Pups scoring with 16 points with only three other girls putting points in the scorebook.

Head Coach TJ Jackson summed up the game in his post-game reflections by saying, “The girls should be proud of their effort and their improvement in many areas that we saw in this game. The ladies were physical and moved fast. Games like this is hope the ladies focus more on the good things they did and do not see the things we could have done better.”

The victory for the game came in the 8th grade Junior Lady Pups ‘B’ game as they dominated Clay Center with a 14-point, 26-12 win.

“the girls did a great job moving the ball and offensively,” explained ‘B’ team coach Courtney Heinen. “They were able to open up some different opportunities by moving the ball quickly and attacking the basket. Defensively, the girls continued to move around and rotate where they needed to be.”

Eight players put points by their name in the scorebook with Cora Pavlovich hitting for double digits with 10, giving her 26 points in two games on the day.

Concluding her reflections on the game, Coach Heinen added, “They struggled covering some spots of the court at the beginning, but they were able to adjust to that. Overall, it was a really good win for the girls and I am proud of how they played.”

Up next for the 8th grade Junior Lady Pups will be to take their game on the road on Thursday, December 10 to Salina to battle with Salina Lakewood.
