GARRISON HITS FOR 30, LAFFERTY & ROLFS COMBINE FOR 29
By William
The power of the Little River boys basketball team was on full display Monday as they rolled over Canton/Galva for a 49-point, 80-31 victory in the Goessel Bluebird Classic basketball tournament.
Scoring 28 points in the first quarter and then adding 17 in the second, the Redskins rolled out to a dominating 45-16 halftime advantage as they shutdown an Eagle team that scored a convincing overtime win on Friday over Rural Vista.
Little River held Canton/Galva to only 15 points in the final two quarters as they rolled to their huge win.
Leading the way for the Redskins was all-state contender Jayden Garrison who dropped in 30 points as he connected on 12-of-18 from the field while finding time to make four steals on defense. Braxton Lafferty and Trey Rolfs also reached double digits in the scorebook with 16 and 13 points respectively while Graham Stephens just missed with nine as he continues to play himself into basketball shape after missing last season due to an injury.
Rolfs also recorded four steals, four rebounds and three assists while Lafferty led the team in rebounds with six and blocked shots with two. The team leader in steals was Dalton Mantz who had seven as the team recorded a whopping 40 turnovers.
One player that Little River Head Coach Wayne Morrow wanted to acknowledge was Rylan Konen, noting, “Rylan (Konen) had an outstanding defensive effort as we gave him a tough assignment and he played it perfectly, something which does not show up on the stat sheet.”
After scoring a team high 21 points in the overtime win on Friday, Christian Darrah was held to just one point on Monday as Brayden Collins was the Eagles leading scorer with 11 points while also grabbing seven rebounds and making a pair of steals. No other Canton/Galva player had more than six points in the game.
Both Little River and Canton/Galva continue this week with a pair of games as part of the Goessel Bluebird Classic tournament.
