STUCKY, HOBSON, ANDERSON LEAD EAGLES

ELYRIA – A steady first three quarters helped push the Elyria Christian boys basketball team to gain a 12-point, 40-28 victory over Goessel on Tuesday in the Goessel Bluebird Classic tournament.

The Eagles scored 13 points in the first quarter and 10 in the second quarter to take a commanding 23-9 lead into the halftime break, after which they put up another 11 points in the third on their way to the 12-point win.

“I was pleased with our steady performance over the last few games,” said Eagle Head Coach Zach Goodrich. “Different people have stepped up for us each game and tonight was no different.”

Zach Stucky led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points as he connected on four of his five shots from the field, while both Josef Hobson and Bret Anderson each chipped in with 10. Keyan Wiggers may have not scored due to foul issues, but he did lead the team in the paint with eight rebounds. Hobson also hit on two-of-three from beyond the three-point line while making five steals on defense.

Coach Goodrich talked about the team in his game reflections when he noted, “Having three players in double figures will help us in the long run because we have multiple scoring options and different guys who can step up each night. Zach (Stucky) had a very solid performance with his 11 points and four assists, while Josef (Hobson) and Bret (Anderson) also chipped in with 10 points.”

Concluding his reflections, Goodrich added, “Two areas I would like to see us improve in moving forward are our free throw shooting and finishing under the rim. We are looking forward to playing on Saturday and having another opportunity to get better.”

The Eagles will play again on Saturday to close out the Goessel Bluebird Classic.
