MOUNDRIDGE – It was a rough opening night at the Moundridge Pre-Season Basketball Tournament as the Lady Wildcats dropped a two-point, 48-46 decision to Hillsboro.

The Lady Wildcats fought hard and stayed in the game by hitting on seven of ten shots from behind the three-point line.

Kourtney Kaufman led Moundridge with 15 points which included four three-pointers and going four-of-four at the free throw line. Also reaching double digits was Kate Eichelberger with 10 points, most of which came from the free throw stripe as she made eight-of-ten while also grabbing a team high six rebounds and making three steals. Erin Durst just missed double digits with nine.

“We played hard and fought the entire game which made me proud of the effort,” noted Lady Wildcat Head Coach Vicki Kessler. “We struggled offensively to get the ball inside, but we shot well from behind the arc. Both teams spent time at the line because of the physical play with our Lady Wildcats taking 24 free throws and making 15 while Hillsboro hit on 17-of-28. Every time Hillsboro would pull ahead by four or five points, we would claw our way back into the game. We had our chances to finish the game and came up short, but again, the effort was great.”

Coach Kessler concluded her game reflections by saying, “This will be a tough week as it always is in our Preseason Tournament. We will face a veteran Inman team on Thursday and will have to be ready to play.”
