Offensive consistency was the key for the first three quarters as the Moundridge girls basketball team pulled away from Lyons from the opening tip to score a final 29-point, 58-29 victory on Friday in the Moundridge Preseason Tournament.

The Lady Wildcats scored 17 and 19 points in each of the first two quarters to take a commanding 20-point, 36-16 lead into the halftime break. After the half, Moundridge continued to put the points up with 15 and nine in the final two quarters to earn the 29-point win.

“The team was ready to play tonight,” noted Lady Wildcat Head Coach Vicky Kessler. “We knew that Lyons would be scrappy, three-point shooters, and aggressive on the boards. Our man defense allowed us to be aggressive and we were able to close out on the shooters quickly.”

Kate Eichelberger had a big game on offense by scoring 23 points which included going seven-for-seven at the free throw line while also grabbing four rebounds and passing out four assists.

Kourtney Kaufman had a double -double as she put 14 points on the scoreboard while dominating in the paint and hauling in 11 rebounds. Kaufman still managed to dish out five assists and connect on four three-pointers.

Kindall Elmore also finished in double digits with 11 that included a pair of three-pointers.

Concluding her reflections on the game, Coach Kessler added, “Offensively, we moved the ball well and handled their defensive pressure. The team passed the ball inside and then would kick it out. This allowed us to have a good inside outside game. Erin (Durst) did a great job leading the transition game and took the first charge of the season.”
