BOYS LOSE HEARTBREAKER BY TWO

By William

INMAN – It was a heartbreaking style of loss for the Inman boys basketball team while the Inman girls just simply could not get the offense working as both Teuton teams took loses to Hillsboro in the Moundridge Preseason Tournament on Friday.

INMAN BOY LOSE HEARTBREAKER

In the Teuton boys game, Inman and Hillsboro were knotted up at 8-8 at the end for the first quarter before the Teutons slipped out to a six-point, 17-11 lead heading into the halftime break.

Coming out of the break, Hillsboro put 14 points on the scoreboard while Inman could only get eight which made the game deadlocked again, this time at 25-25 heading into the final eight minutes of play, where Hillsboro just managed to make the final shots go in to earn the two-point win and a very heartbreaking loss for the Teutons.

“Lost a tough one tonight,” explained Teuton Head Coach Brett Froese. “Game was back and forth the whole way until they made a play at the end and we did not. We had a little breakdown in our zone and they made a shot, we just didn’t get a good look at the end. Part of that is my fault, we should have set something up.”

Only five Teutons put points in the scorebook in the game and none had more than the nine which Jace Doerksen had to lead the team while Derick Johnson and Tanner Heckel chipped in with eight and seven respectively.

Coach Froese mentioned some of the points in the game that may have cost Inman the contest when he concluded his reflections on the game by adding, “We had way too many turnovers again with 16 and going just four-of-fifteen from the free throw line will not win against good teams and we are proving that. We must improve our taking care of the ball. I did love the way we battled tonight as Hillsboro and us may be a couple of the best 2A teams in the state. I told our kids after the game to not get discouraged. Our first six games before Christmas are just brutal.”

Next week the Teutons will go on the road twice, on Tuesday to tangle with Sterling and on Friday to battle with Wichita Trinity.

LADY TEUTONS STRUGGLE ON OFFENSE

In the girls game, the Lady Teutons were unable to score more than eight points in any quarter as they took a 16-point, 39-23 loss to Hillsboro.

Outside of Kadence Welch, who led the Lady Teutons with 12 points, none of the other girls who put points on the board had more than three.

The Lady Teutons also have a rough week ahead as they travel to Sterling on Tuesday before hosting a Thursday battle at home with Chaparal.
