HELINE TOPS SMOKY VALLEY SCORING

By William

LINDSBORG – After leading in the first half, the Smoky Valley boys basketball team saw offensive struggles take over in the second half which gave visiting Concordia the pathway to a 12-point, 45-33 win over the Vikings on Friday.

Playing once again without Head Coach Dough Schneider due to illness, the Vikings took an early five-point, 12-7 lead in the first quarter and still held a one-point, 23-22 advantage when the two teams headed to the halftime break.

But then came the third quarter where the Vikings could only manage three points while Concordia put 12 on the scoreboard and took the lead by eight heading into the final eight minutes of play where they then kept the shackles on Smoky Valley to get the road win.

Ryan Heline led the Vikings in scoring with 12 points which included a pair of three-pointers and a 10 point first eight minutes. Jake Lucas, thanks to two three-pointers, finished with eight points while Haven Lysell-Stewart chipped in with seven. No other Viking player scored more than two.

Next up for the Viking boys will be a road test on Tuesday at Hesston followed by a big home battle with always tough Halstead next Friday.
