STERLING – Playing without their head coach, the Inman boys basketball team nearly let a big lead get away in the fourth quarter before hanging on for a three-point, 44-41, victory on the road Tuesday at Sterling.

The Teutons took a five-point, 11-6, lead by the end of the first quarter and then extended it to eight-points at 22-14 going into the halftime break.

Coming out of the break, Inman built their advantage up to 13 points at 34-21 going into the final eight minutes of play where Sterling hammered away at the lead and outscored the Teutons in the final quarter 20-10 only to see the Teutons hang on for the final three-point win.

“I am super proud of our effort tonight,” noted Teuton Head Coach Brett Froese. “Coach Friesen did a fantastic job, just as he’s been doing for years. Our defensive scout really worked and we made shots tonight. Just so proud of the guys.”

Coach Froese was unavailable for the game due to an illness.

Derick Johnson led the Teutons offense with 13 points which included connecting on three three-pointers while Tanner Heckel chipped in with 11 points that saw him hit a pair of three-pointers. As a team, Inman hit nine three-pointers in the game including a pair for Eli Brunk who just missed double digits with nine points on the night.

With the win the Teutons are now even at 2-2 for the season as they finish out their pre-Christmas schedule on Friday with a trip south to battle with Wichita Trinity.
