LITTLE RIVER – The Moundridge girls basketball team used a strong first half to help power them to a 15-point, 58-43 victory Tuesday, on the road at Little River.

After taking a seven-point, 17-10 first quarter lead, the Lady Wildcats pushed their advantage to 12 points at 31-19 over the Lady Redskins heading into the halftime break. Little River shaved just three points off the lead in the third quarter before Moundridge outscored them 16-10 in the final eight minutes of play to earn the 15-point win.

“We had a great first half offensively by scoring 31 points,” noted Lady Wildcat Head Coach Vicky Kessler. With a taller Little River team, rebounding was a key for us, and we grabbed 23 rebounds overall while they came away with 20. We had nine offensive boards which was a strong performance.”

The Lady Wildcats were led by the two-headed offensive monster of Kourtney Kaufman and Kate Eichelberger as they both put 21 points in the scorebook. Kaufman had an outstanding night shooting as she connected on eight-of-eleven shots from the field which included three-for-three on two-pointers and five-of-eight on three-pointers while Eichelberger was calm at the free throw line buy nailing nine-of-eleven.

Eichelberger did a grand job in the paint as she collected nine rebounds.

Coach Kessler concluded her reflections on the game by saying, “I was pleased with our transition game as it gave us some easy baskets. Defensively, we broke down too many times and gave up an easy basket. I will give Little River credit though as they played well and made us work for the entire game.”

For the Lady Redskins, MeKenzie Renken led the team in scoring with 13 points which included three three-pointers, while both Lily Boughfman and Aubrey Olander each reached double digits with 10 points.

Boughfman had another solid night covering the inside for Little River as she blocked three shots and grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Olander collected five rebounds, while Alaina Eck led the team in dishing out three assists and Renken made the most of three steals.

The Little River girls are now even at 2-2 for the season as they prep to close out their pre-Christmas schedule with a road game at Hartford on Friday.

The Lady Wildcats victory pushes their season mark to 4-1 as they take on the Heart of America League/Central Plains League Challenge on Thursday with a home game hosting Wichita Independent.
