LINDSBORG – Finally, the Smoky Valley boys basketball team got their first win of the season and did so in a huge way by routing visiting Halstead on Friday with a 64-point, 75-11 victory.

The Vikings powered out to a 21-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and already put the game away by halftime with a 24-point second quarter to give them a whopping 45-7 halftime advantage before cruising through the final two quarters for the win.

Defense held Halstead to just 19 shots on the game, including zero for six from beyond the three-point line while the Vikings put up 48 shots and made 31 which included five three-pointers.

The Smoky Valley defense also forced Halstead into making 28 turnovers to just three for the home team, with the Vikings making 20 steals led by Lukas Apel with five, Jake Lucas with four and Haven Lysell-Stewart with three.

Individually, Jake Lucas had a career night as he connected on nine-of-twelve shots from the field, including two three-pointers while finishing the game with 22 points.

Haven Lysell-Stewart also finished in double digits with 10 points while Brandt Heble and Ryan Heline came close with nine and eight points respectively as 11 Vikings put points by their name in the scorebook.

Lysell-Stewart topped the team in rebounds with seven with Kade Blanchat and Lucas both grabbing five. Blanchat led the team in assists with five.

Now 1-3 for the season, the Vikings are off for the Christmas break and will return to action on Tuesday, December 5 when they travel to Hoisington.
