BOUGHFMAN, RENKEN LEAD LITTLE RIVER

By William

HARTFORD – The Little River girls basketball team could not shake Hartford until the fourth quarter when they finally pulled away to earn a nine-point, 36-27, road win on Friday.

After taking a four-point, 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Redskins took a five-point, 18-13, advantage into the halftime break before Hartford managed to pull back within one point by the end of the third quarter at 22-21.

The Lady Redskins then outscored the host team by eight in the final eight minutes to earn the final nine-point victory.

“We won our game at Hartford,” noted Lady Redskin Head Coach Brent Clark. “We again had a solid defensive effort but struggled a little on the offensive end. I thought Lily (Boughfman) had a great night on both ends of the court while MeKenzie (Renken) did a great job of showing some leadership on the court.”

Both Lily Boughfman and MeKenzie Renken led Little River in scoring for the night with 11 points each while Mea Debaere chipped in with six.

Boughfman also dominated the boards for the Lady Redskins with nine rebounds while blocking four shots and dishing out four assists. Renken and Aubrey Olander each gave her help in the paint as they both grabbed five rebounds of their own.

Coach Clark concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “We are a noticeably young and inexperienced team, and it shows during parts of the game. These girls are working extremely hard and we will see improvement as the season progresses. We now have a long break with little practice time before our next game. Hopefully, we can keep the momentum going when we return.”

The Lady Redskins conclude the pre-Christmas side of their 2020-21 schedule with a 3-2 record and will return to the competitive hardwood the first week of January when they go on the road twice, once on Tuesday, January 5 at Herington and then on Friday, January 8 when they travel to Wakefield.
