NEWS, NOTES & CHANGES FROM OUR COUNTY HEALTH DIRECTOR

By William

MCPHERSON – Instead of the normal Monday case report update, the McPherson County Health Department and Director Shalei Shea instead released the following information on changes of the case reporting as well as an update on other items of interest to the general public, including information about vaccines.

CHANGE IN CASE REPORTING UPDATES:

Beginning on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, the McPherson County will only be reporting case updates on Tuesday and Thursday of each week.

This is a change from the long running Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule.

NEWS ABOUT VACCINES:

The McPherson County Health Department reports that on Monday, December 21, 2020, they received notification that 130 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine would be delivered in the following three days.

Five hours later, the McPherson County Health Department took possession of those doses and after intense planning and organizing with key partners, the McPherson County Health Department administered the first 30 doses to McPherson County healthcare-associated workers on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.

The McPherson County Health Department administered the remaining 100 doses on December 29 and December 30, 2020 to healthcare-associated workers and first responders.

A NOTE OF THANKS FROM THE MCPHERSON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT:

The McPherson County Health Department staff would like to thank the 130 vaccine recipients for not only working with us, but for spearheading a turning point in this pandemic for McPherson County!

Every single recipient has dedicated their time and effort to keeping McPherson County safe during the pandemic and we are thankful for them.

FURTHER VACCINE INFORMATION:

The distribution of the COVID-19 Vaccine is regulated at the federal and state level.

There is little to no warning of when doses may be received at local health departments at this time.

There is a statewide COVID-19 vaccination plan that is available on the KDHE COVID-19 WEBSITE, www.coronavirus.kdheks.gov.

There is also a graphic available that explains the anticipated vaccination availability schedule for Kansas on the KDHE COVID-19 website, it is located under “Kansas COVID-19 Vaccination Plan”.

The McPherson County Health Department will reach out to providers and entities as more information becomes available and as Kansas progresses through the vaccination phases.

We do not know at this time if it will be readily available for the general public at the McPherson County Health Department, county hospitals or at local area doctor offices.

Please continue to have patience with us as more information is passed down through the state.

We do not have any control of when doses arrive or who they are prioritized for at this time and as soon as that information is available, the McPherson County Health Department will make it public.
