ANDERSON, STUCKY, AROUM LEAD EAGLES

By William

SOLOMON – The Elyria Christian boys basketball team spent the first two quarters knocking off the holiday break dust before powering past Solomon on the road Friday with a 62-32 victory.

After taking a 14-8 first quarter lead, the Eagles hung on to keep a four-point, 24-20 advantage heading into the halftime break.

Once the third quarter started, Elyria put 22 points on the board while holding the host team to just 10 to take a commanding 46-30 lead into the final quarter where they dominated by outscoring Solomon 16-2 to earn the 30-point win.

“After a long lay-off, we were able to find the basket,” explained Eagle Head Coach Zach Goodrich. “Bret (Anderson) was great for us tonight as he finished with 20 points while hitting on 10-of-12 shooting. I thought Bret did a good job of getting out in transition and creating easy opportunities for himself. Zach Stucky continued to be a solid facilitator while there was a great contribution from the younger players such as Dominique Lundberg and Colby Clark.”

As mention by his coach, Bret Anderson led the Eagles in scoring with 20 points while missing just two shots from the field. He also led the team on the boards with seven rebounds and still had time on defense to make five steals.

Zach Stucky also reach double digits in scoring with 13 points and had a solid stat line with five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Kaden Aroum just missed double digits with nine points while Dominick Lundberg chipped in with eight.

Coach Goodrich concluded his game reflections by adding, “We are hoping the younger guys can build from this performance as they have potential to leave an imprint on the game each night. Overall, it was a solid outing from everyone that touched the floor tonight. We are going to keep getting better each day and improve where we need to before the next contest.”

The Elyria boys also won the junior varsity game 27-16.

Now 5-3 for the season, the Eagles will return to the competitive hardwood on Tuesday, January 12, when they play host to Canton/Galva.
