MOUNDRIDGE – Despite the long holiday break, the Moundridge girls basketball team continues to roll this season as they returned to the home court on Friday and dismantled Marion with a 53-15 victory.

The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 10-2 first quarter lead before extending it to 26-5 by the time the two teams hit the halftime break. Moundridge then cruised through the second half, outscoring Marion 27-10 to earn the 38-point win.

“The Ladies played solid defense,” noted Lady Wildcat Head Coach Vicky Kessler. “They were ready to play a game after the long break. Defensively, the ladies created havoc on the Lady Warriors by making 11 steals. Rebounding was strong as we came away with a 33-20 advantage on the boards.”

Moundridge was led by Kate Eichelberger who had another double-double as she scored 17 points while pulling down 12 rebounds, and Kourtney Kaufman who led the team with 18 points. Kaufman was also strong on the boards as she grabbed eight rebounds, made three steals and connected on six three-pointers.

Also getting credit for a strong game by the coaching staff was Erin Durst who scored seven points while dishing out eight assist in leading the Lady Wildcat offense and swiping four steals on defense.

Coach Kessler concluded her post-game reflections by saying, “It is hard to come back from a long break, so I was pleased with our effort and intensity. We had a few players in quarantine, so I really appreciated Alea Durst, Emma Blough, and Myiah Logue stepping up.”

Now 6-1 for the season, the Lady Wildcats return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Bennington.
