HECKEL PUTS UP 22 POINTS

SOUTH HAVEN – Despite a last-minute change in game schedule and coming off a lengthy holiday break, the Inman boys basketball team played four quarters of consistent basketball to score a 60-48 road victory over South Haven on Friday.

Originally scheduled to play Burrton, a Friday morning cancellation due to the coronavirus issues, the Teutons were able to still get a game in on the road at South Haven and showed little rust coming off the holiday break by scoring 14-16 points in each of the four quarters.

Inman came out strong at the start and held a six-point, 15-9 advantage by the end of the first quarter before extending their lead out to 10 at 30-20 when the two teams hit the halftime break.

The Teutons went up by 16 at 44-28 by the end of the third quarter before having to hold off a final quarter comeback by South Haven to earn the final 12-point win.

“We played okay tonight,” noted Inman Head Coach Brett Froese. “It was a last-minute game with South Haven due to both of us getting games cancelled due to COVID-19. They have a nice team as they are athletic and did some nice things offensively.”

Tanner Heckel had a huge game for the Teutons as he put 22 points on the scoreboard to lead the team in scoring while also dishing out a team high nine assists. Jace Doerksen just missed double digits with nine. A total of seven Teutons put points in the scorebook, with both Derick Johnson and Eli Brunk chipping in with eight points each.

Coach Froese continued his reflections on the game by saying, “I was proud of how we were more aggressive and got out in transition more tonight. When we do that, we are much more dangerous. I thought Jace (Doerksen) had one of his best games tonight and our posts did a nice job tonight as well. I like that rotation now with Dawson Mannebach being back. Tanner (Heckel) was really good tonight as he got us into our offense.”

Coach Froese concluded his comments by adding, “We have a tough week ahead with both Hutchinson Trinity and Sedgwick on the schedule.”

With the victory, the Teutons are now 3-4 for the season and will host Hutchinson Trinity on Tuesday, January 12 before closing out the week on the road at Sedgwick on Friday.
