LINDSBORG – A solid beginning and ending to the game gave the Smoky Valley boys basketball team a 14-point, 46-32, victory over Halstead at home on Tuesday.

The Vikings jumped out and doubled the Dragons in the first quarter to hold a 14-7 early advantage before Halstead closed the gap to three by the end of the second quarter when Smoky Valley went into the halftime break with an 18-15 lead.

Smoky Valley put 11 points up in the third quarter and then posted 17 in the final eight minutes of play while holding the Dragons to under 10 in both to gain the final 14-point win.

Haven Lysell-Stewart led the Vikings offensive attack with 15 points while Jake Lucas joined him in double digits with 11 and Ryan Heline just missed with nine.

Lysell-Stewart and Lucas each grabbed five rebounds to lead Smoky Valley in the paint while they also both made four steals to lead the defense as well.

With the win, Smoky Valley is now 2-3 for the season as they prep to host Hesston on Friday.
