BOUGHFMAN, OLANDER LEAD LITTLE RIVER

By William

WHITE CITY – It was a big night for the girls in the middle and a big night for a comeback as the Little River girls fought through double overtime before getting a 50-43 road victory over Rural Vista on Friday.

The Lady Redskins put themselves in a deep hole early as Rural Vista bounced out to an eight-point, 15-7 lead by the end of the first quarter before the Lady Redskins were able to whittle it to just three points in the hole by the halftime break.

Coming out of the break, Little River outscored Rural Vista 14-2 in the third quarter to take a seemingly commanding 31-22 lead into the final quarter only to see the home team bury them in return 14-4 in the final eight minutes to tie the game at the end of regulation at 35-35.

With both teams only scoring five in the first overtime, the Lady Redskins took control in the second overtime to score the final seven-point win.

“We won our game at Rural Vista on Friday by a score of 50-43 in double overtime,” explained Lady Redskin Head Coach Brent Clark. “We got behind early in the game by 10 and battled back to tie the game, only to be down three at halftime. Took what I thought was a nice nine-point lead at the end of the third quarter, then had Rural vista hit a key three-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.”

The Lady Redskins were led by their power tandem in the middle, Lily Boughfman and Aubrey Olander, as they 35 of the teams 50 points with Boughfman getting 19 and Olander scoring 16.

Both girls made double doubles for the game as they combined for 29 rebounds with Olander leading the team with 16 while Boughfman grabbed 13. Both Mea Debaere and MeKenzie Renken helped with five rebounds each.

Boughfman also directed a lot of the offense from her spot in the paint as she led the team with dishing out six assists while Renken dished out five. Boughfman also blocked four shots during the game as well.

Coach Clark concluded his game reflections by adding, “After Rural Vista hit another three to tie the game at the end of the first overtime, we got a little lead in the second overtime when MeKenzie (Renken) hit four big free throws to secure the victory. It was a big win for us while being a great basketball game. This team continues to improve.”
