PEABODY – For the first time in over a month the Elyria Christian boys basketball team had everyone available and they used by getting eight different players to put points on the scoreboard in the teams successful 12-point, 52-40 road victory on Tuesday over Peabody/Burns.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick six-point, 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and then extended their advantage to 11 points at 35-24 going into the halftime break before cruising in the final two quarters for the final 12-point winning margin.
“It was nice to have everyone back for the first time since December 12,” pointed out Elyria Head Coach Zach Goodrich. “It was great to see some shots go in from the outside and it helped open things up inside for us. Bret (Anderson) was good around the basket while Kaden (Aroum) shot the ball well.”
Bret Anderson recorded a double-double for the game by leading the Eagles in scoring with 14 and in rebounds with 10 while also getting a blocked shot and three steals on defense.
Kaden Aroum joined Anderson in double figures by hitting for 13 which included three three-pointers. Aroum also got three steals playing defense.
Josef Hobson was back and just missed double digits with nine points.
Coach Goodrich concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “I did not feel we were good defensively tonight. We were slow to help and were not contesting their better shooters as well as I would have liked. We will continue to look to improve.”
Now 6-4 for the season, the Elyria Eagles will be on the road Friday to do battle with Marion.
