Being the number one team in Class 1A does not mean you will have easy games as the Little River boys learned on Tuesday as they needed a huge fourth quarter comeback to overcome a feisty Central Christian team and score a 57-49 victory in the Burrton Invitational.

Central Christian held a six-point, 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and had a seven-point, 31-24 lead over the Redskins going into the halftime break.

Little River got the deficit down to just five points by the end of the third quarter before their offense erupted for 22 points in the final eight minutes of play to pull ahead and earn the hard fought eight-point, 57-49 win over Central Christian.

While the Redskins struggled in hitting shots from the field, only hitting 32%, they did connect on 26-of-34 trips to the free throw line, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Jayden Garrison led the Redskins in scoring with 25 points which included three three-pointers and making eight-of-eight from the charity stripe while also pulling down four rebounds, making a blocked shot and getting three steals.

Braxton Lafferty and Rylan Konen also reached double digits in scoring for Little River with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Konen led the team in rebounds with six while Lafferty grabbed five. Both Lafferty and Graham Stephens were quick handed on defense and each recorded five steals.

With the victory, Little River is now 10-0 for the season and will play Inman in the second round of the Burrton Invitational on Thursday evening. Inman scored a 60-41 win over Goessel on Tuesday.
