GOESSEL – A strong second and third quarters helped propel the Moundridge girls basketball team to a dominating 56-23 road win on Friday at Goessel.

After jumping out to a five-point, 12-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats stretched their lead to 16 points at 30-14 as the two teams headed into the halftime break.

In the third quarter Moundridge put 22 points in the scorebook compared to just six for Goessel on their way to the final 33-point victory.

“The Lady Wildcats were able to pull away from Goessel in the second quarter,” pointed out Moundridge Head Coach Vicky Kessler. “The third quarter was also strong as we outscored the Bluebirds 22-6.”

Moundridge was led by Erin Durst with 19 points while Kate Eichelberger just missed getting a double-double by scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds to go along with six blocked shots.

Speaking of her team, Coach Kessler continued by saying, “Our transition game was strong with Erin Durst leading the attack as her seven steals led to some fast break baskets. Katie (Eichelberger) was a force inside with six blocks and nine rebounds while Kourtney (Kaufman) had a steady stat line with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.”

Finishing her reflections on the game, Coach Kessler added, “This was a great team effort as the Lady Wildcats had a lot of different combinations, and all 11 of our players gave solid minutes.”

The victory gives the Lady Wildcats a 9-1 record for the season as they prep to play next week in the Haven Basketball Tournament.
