BUHLER – It was a rough go on Saturday for the McPherson Middle School 7th grade boys basketball teams as they both took losses on the road in Buhler to Prairie Hills Middle School.

The 7th grade Junior Pups ‘A’ team lost 52-29 while the ‘B’ team tumbled 39-16.

With a scheduled game on Monday postponed the 7th grade Junior Pups now have extra days to practice and prep for a Saturday contest on the road with Hutchinson.

Here are the 7th grade Junior Pups game summaries:

7th GRADE JUNIOR PUPS ‘A’ TEAM GAME INFO:

SCORE: Prairie Hills 52, JUNIOR PUPS 29

7th GRADE JUNIOR PUPS ‘A’ TEAM SCORING:

Jett Pyle – 10; Kaizer Kanitz – 9; Cade Strathman – 6; Paxton Ingels – 2; Kaden Godwin – 1; Teigan Younger – 1.

The 7th grade Junior Pups ‘A’ team were flat throughout their game on Saturday and lost to Prairie Hills 52-29.

“They say you practice how you play and today that old saying was true,” pointed out Head Coach Paul Reichenberger. “I felt like all week the boys were not taking practice seriously. That showed on the court against Prairie Hills. The boys came out flat and made simple mistakes all game long.”

Jett Pyle was the lone Junior Pup to reach double digits scoring as he put 10 in the scorebook while Kaizer Kanitz just missed with nine.

Coach Reichenberger concluded his reflections on the weekend game by adding, “Right now, we are in the middle of our toughest stretch of the season with a game last Thursday, this game on Saturday and a game on Monday.”

Note – the game on Monday has been postponed to Saturday, January 30.

7th GRADE JUNIOR PUPS ‘B’ TEAM GAME INFO:

SCORE: Prairie Hills 39, JUNIOR PUPS 16

7TH GRADE JUNIOR PUPS ‘B’ TEAM SCORING:

Caleb Muehler – 6; Jaydn Mari – 4; Ethan Harrington – 3; Zane Sporlander – 2; Cameron Buckbee – 1.

While the 7th grade Junior Pups ‘B’ team may continue to show improvement, they still came home on the losing end of a 39-16 battle with Prairie Hills on Saturday.

“We are continuing to improve even though the score does not necessarily show it,” said ‘B’ team Coach Grant Barrett. “Our struggles continued against Prairie Hills pressure, but there were times where we were able to avoid the press and get all the way to the basket. We are coming to the end of our NBA-like schedule, coming off five games in ten days, so we are looking forward to practicing some of the things that we haven’t had time to put in and work on during the week.”

Caleb Muehler led the ‘B’ team in scoring with six points, while Jaydn Mari put four on the board as well.
