JOHNSON LEADS INMAN

By William

INMAN – A very sluggish first quarter put the Inman boys basketball team in poor position and Berean Academy took advantage of that as the Teutons were beaten 60-44 at home on Friday.

The Teutons were only able to muster four points in the first quarter while Berean put 20 in the scorebook to take an early 16-point lead before Inman was able to right the offense in the second quarter and out gun Berean 22-12 to pull back within six points heading into the halftime break.

Unfortunately, Inman was able to keep up in the final two quarters as Berean outscored them 28-18 to beat the Teutons by 16.

“By the score you would think we didn’t play very good tonight, but I thought we got better,” pointed out Teuton Head Coach Brett Froese. “One thing you can not do is spot the other team 20 points right out of the gate and it doesn’t matter who they are. But you definitely can not do that against a really good team like Berean.”

Helped by a pair of three-pointers, Derick Johnson led the Teutons offense with 10 points while Tanner Heckel just missed double digits with nine and Eli Brunk chipped in with eight. Six other Teutons put points by their name in the scorebook, but not had more than four.

Coach Froese concluded his reflections on the game by adding, “The crazy thing is with all that being said, we were down only six at the half and in the third quarter we had the ball at one point only down two points. We just ran out of gas from there. Super proud of the kids and the effort to even get the game back to one possession. They just came out on fire and we did not respond very well. To many turnovers tonight as well in the half court for us that were unforced. I still like this team and I am not afraid to line them up against anybody. We are still getting better and we have not peaked yet. We are still capable of doing some special things this year.”

The loss drops the Teutons to 5-8 for the season as they prep to get back on the court Tuesday with a road trip to Bennington.
