CLAY CENTER – Consistency in their offense paid off for the Smoky Valley boys basketball team on Friday as they went on the road to Clay Center and scored a 57-38 victory.

The Vikings held a three-point, 15-12, first quarter advantage and then pushed it a smidge to five points at 25-20 going into the halftime break. Another 14 points in the third upped their lead to seven before out scoring the Tigers 18-6 in the final eight minutes and earning their 19-point win.

It was a full team effort as the Vikings dished out a whopping 22 assists on 25 made shots from the field as they connected on 55% of the attempts from the field for the game. Smoky Valley also held an edge in rebounding, 24-16, while their defense forced the Tigers into 16 turnovers.

Haven Lysell-Stewart led the offensive attack with 14 points while both Ryan Heline and Jake Lucas reached double digits as well with 11 and 10 points each.

Both Heline and Lucas led the Vikings in assists as well as they both dished out six each while Lysell-Stewart did yeoman’s work in the paint and lead Smoky Valley with eight rebounds. Lucas also had the quick hands-on defense by making four of the teams 11 steals.

The win gives the Vikings a 4-8 mark for the season as they now prep for a road trip to Hillsboro on Tuesday.
