HOBSON, UNRUH, STUCKY LEAD EAGLES

LOST SPRINGS – From the opening tip it was not close on Saturday as the Elyria boys basketball team dominated from the beginning to the end of a road game at Centre on their way to a 46-17 win.

After jumping out to a nine-point, 12-3, advantage by the end of the first quarter, the Eagles pushed the lead out to 18 at 27-9 by the halftime break and held a commanding 32-point, 44-12 lead after three quarters as they cruised to the final 29-point victory.

“I felt after a full week of practice that we were able to sharpen up on some things we wanted to emphasize,” pointed out Eagle Head Coach Zach Goodrich. “The boys came out ready to go and got after it! Defensively we were able to force Centre into contested shots and limit them to just one opportunity.”

Joseph Hobson had a monster game for the little over 13 minutes he played by connecting on three three-pointers while scoring 13 points and grabbing three rebounds.

Zach Stucky just missed double digits with nine while both Kaden Aroum and Bret Anderson each scored eight.

Ben Unruh and Anderson led Elyria on the boards with seven and six rebounds each, while Stucky dished out a team leading four assists and both Ben and Johnny Unruh made three steals apiece on defense.

Coach Goodrich concluded his reflections on the blowout victory by saying, “Bret (Anderson) and Ben (Unruh) were solid rebounding on both ends of the floor. Offensively, we were moving the ball well and were finding everyone’s best shot. Joseph (Hobson) was able to find rhythm and connect on plenty of outside shots. Both Zach (Stucky) and Kaden (Aroum) were solid in distributing the ball as we had 11 assists on 17 made field goals. I believe we have an opportunity to make some important gains next week against quality opponents and improve all our actions we have been working on.”

The victory gives the Eagles an 8-4 record for the season as they get ready to play to home games this week with Wakefield coming to town on Tuesday and then hosting Goessel on Friday.
