MOUNDRIDGE – Despite an early lead, the Moundridge girls were unable to hold off the inside game of Sterling and eventually the Lady Black Bears pulled away for a 60-46 win.

The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a seven-point, 17-10 advantage by the end of the first quarter thanks to a slew of three-pointers, only to have Sterling power back to outscore Moundridge 20-9 in the second quarter and take a four-point, 30-26 lead heading into the halftime break.

After the intermission, Sterling pushed their lead out to 11 by the end of the third quarter before cruising in for the final 14-point victory over Moundridge.

“The Lady Wildcats had a great first quarter by scoring 17 points while hitting five three-point shots,” noted Moundridge Head Coach Vicky Kessler. “Sterling came roaring back in the second quarter with 20 points as the inside game was too much for us.”

Erin Durst led the Lady Wildcats with 15 points which included a pair of three-pointers while also grabbing five rebounds.

Kindall Elmore connected on five-of-eight from the field to score 14 points to go along with eight rebounds, while Kourtney Kaufman just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Speaking of her players, Coach Kessler concluded her reflections on the game by adding, “Emma Blough and Myiah Logue gave some great minutes inside with the absence of Kate Eichelberger. Erin Durst continues to improve her offensive game all year while Kindall Elmore attacked the basket and Kourtney Kaufman just missed herself a double-double. I was so proud of the intensity the team brought to the game. They fought hard and never gave up.”

Now 10-4 for the season, the Lady Wildcats will go on the road on Friday to battle cross county rival Inman.
