HOBSON, STUCKY, ALLEN LEAD EAGLES

ELYRIA – It rained three-pointers on Tuesday for the Elyria boys as they made good on nine of them on their way to a dominating 51-28 win at home over visiting Wakefield.

The Eagles held a six-point, 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter before pushing the advantage out to 14 at 26-12 heading into the halftime break. Elyria continued to show consistency in offense as they added 12 and 13 points to the scoreboard in each of the final two quarters on their way to the dominating 23-point victory.

“It is good to see Joseph (Hobson) finding his outside shot,” noted Eagle Head Coach Zach Goodrich. “We are excited for him and hope he can keep up this high level of play. He has been putting extra work in after practice, so he has put himself in this position. Zach (Stucky) also was steady and had a solid night on the offensive end as he finished with five assists.”

Hobson led the Eagles by putting 18 points on the board while Stucky scored 12 as each of them made four three-pointers in the game.

While Josh Allen was Elyria’s top rebounder with six, the team had two with four and four others who grabbed four each.

The team effort showed up on the stat sheet as the Eagles recorded 17 assists on 20 made field goals for the night and on defense recorded nine steals.

Coach Fields continued his reflections on the game when he finished up by saying, “We are doing a good job finding open space on the offensive end as the boys have seen zone the last couple of contests and we are learning where to get looks. It does help when you hit shots, but the boys are making the plays. I felt we missed some opportunities under the basket, but hopefully we will start to capitalize on those looks as well. Defensively, we did not do a good job early and were not locked up in the way we should have been. All the boys are working hard and trying to add something to the group. They are learning and that is what we want to do with some strong challenges ahead.”

Now 9-4 for the season and ranked sixth in Class 1A Division II, the Eagles will prep to play host to Goessel on Friday.
