INMAN – Hitting their free throws and playing some stout defense helped lead the Moundridge girls to a big 27-point, 49-22 road win on Friday over county rival Inman.

The Lady Wildcats jumped out early to a 12-5 lead and held a 17-point, 30-8 advantage as the two teams headed to the halftime break. Moundridge then outscored Inman 15-2 in the third quarter before cruising in for the victory.

“We hit some shots early and were able to gain the lead,” explained Lady Wildcat Head Coach Vicky Kessler. “Our defensive effort was solid tonight as we forced Inman out of their offensive system early in the game. We covered a lot of ground quickly and came away with 15 steals for the night.”

Kindall Elmore led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 16 while both Kourtney Kaufman and Kate Eichelberger each chipped in with 12. Kaufman had a strong game outside as she connected on 4-of-8 from beyond the three-point line while Eichelberger hit a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.

Coach Kessler concluded her reflections on the game by adding, “We were 13-of-18 at the free throw line for 72%, which is a huge improvement from the past few games. We, as a team, also shot well from beyond the three-point arc, hitting 42% of our shots.

The loss drops the Lady Teutons to 6-9 for the season as they prep to go on the road next Friday for a game at Marion.

Now 11-4 for the season, the Lady Wildcats will be on the road at Marion on Tuesday.
