PAYING ATTENTION WHEN BACKING UP

Traffic Tip Tuesday Postings are presented by the McPherson Police Department.

This Tuesday, February 9, they are discussing the topic of ‘LIMITATIONS ON BACKING’.

The next time you are backing out of your driveway or a parking stall, take a second and look all around your vehicle.

  • Look for obstructions
  • Look for others backing out
  • Look for oncoming traffic

Improper backing has traditionally been a leading cause of traffic accidents.

Standard Traffic Ordinance (STO) 117 – LIMITATIONS ON BACKING states that:

  • The driver of a vehicle shall not back unless such movement can be made safely and without interfering with other traffic.
  • The drive of a vehicle SHALL NOT BACK upon any shoulder or roadway of any controlled-access highway.

For your safety and the safety of others, make it a habit to always check your surroundings before making any movements in a vehicle, especially when backing out of a spot.

PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY!!
