HERINGTON – From the opening tip to the final buzzer the game belonged to the Elyria Christian boys as they pounded Herington on the road Tuesday to the score of a 48-24 win.

“It was good to see the boys start the first quarter off well,” pointed out Eagle head coach Zach Goodrich. “We were able to get some of the looks we have been emphasizing in practice leading up to this contest.”

The Eagles ran out to a 10-point, 15-5 advantage by the end of the first quarter and pushed their lead to 18 at 25-7 heading into the halftime break before cruising in for the final 24-point victory.

Keyan Wiggers was the lone Eagle to reach double figures in scoring with 16 as nine players scored at least two points and 11 Eagles put a mark by a stat in the scorebook.

Josef, Hobson, Kaden Aroum, and Johnny Unruh each chipped in with six points while Zach Stucky directed the offense by dishing out six assists. Ben Unruh led the work in the paint with six rebounds while four Eagles grabbed at least four and 10 overall recorded at least one rebound in the game.

Coach Goodrich noted the yeoman work by a few of his team when he said, “Keyan (Wiggers) had an advantage inside and we wanted to make sure we took those opportunities. He finished with 16 points, hitting 7-of-8 from the field. He gives us another element, and if he can find this effort the rest of the season, we will have a good chance to compete in our upcoming schedule. Zach (Stucky) was steady with six assists and was more aggressive this contest. We need Stucky to continue to find his teammates but look to score as well. As a team we finished with 15 assists which I am always thrilled when we are creating for one another.”

Goodrich concluded his reflection on the game by looking ahead, adding, “We have a stretch of games here where we are going to have to play well! Little River is our next opponent and they have a solid team as we will have our hands full with Jayden Garrison and the rest of the team. It will be a good measuring opportunity for us to see if we are ready to compete at a high level.”

Now 10-5 and ranked sixth in Class 1A Division II, the Eagles play host to the #1 ranked team in Class 1A, the Little River Redskins, on Friday.
