MARION – When you shoot 52% from the field and 43% from the three-point line you figure to win and that is what the Moundridge boys did on Tuesday as they used an offensive explosion to dominate Marion on the road in a 77-39 win.

The Wildcats powered out to a 22-point, 29-7 advantage by the end of the first quarter and then extended it out to a 36-point lead by putting another 21 points on the scoreboard in quarter two to take a 50-14 lead into the halftime break before cruising in for the final 38-point victory.

“We shot it well tonight and converted steals into some quick and easy baskets,” explained Wildcat head coach Vance Unrau. “We had four starters in double figures scoring on 23 assists which means we shared the ball well.”

Going 6-of-9 from beyond the three-point line helped power Landon Kaufman out to the game leading 24 points while Jon Schlosser scored 16, Logan Churchill had 14 and Corbin Unruh contributed 12. The four Wildcats in double digits scoring also dished out 19 of the teams 23 assists with Unruh leading the way with seven.

Eight Moundridge players put a rebound stat by their name in the scorebook with Churchill grabbing eight and both Schlosser and Korbin Wedel each pulling down six each.

Kaufman had the quick hands-on defense as he swiped seven steals while Churchill blocked three shots in the game.

Coach Unrau concluded his reflections on the game by adding, “We have some tough games coming up down the stretch so we will need to continue to commit to playing solid defense and execute on the offensive end like tonight. I like how this team is coming together.”

With the lopsided victory, the Wildcats are now 10-6 for the season as they prep to play host to Remington on Friday.
