NICKERSON – A stout defense helped power the Smoky Valley boys to a commanding 61-30 win over Nickerson on the road Friday.

The Vikings held a five-point, 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter before doubling up on the Panthers at 30-15 heading into the halftime break. In the final two quarters, Smoky Valley outscored Nickerson 31-15 to earn the final 31-point victory.

While Smoky Valley hit on 45% of their shots from the field, their stout defense shackled Nickerson to just connecting on 25% of their shots while the Vikings also hit 21-of-27 from the free throw line while the Panthers only took eight free throws total.

Haven Lysell-Stewart led the Vikings in the scorebook with 17 points while Jake Lucas hit for 15 and Kade Blanchat had eight as nine Vikings put at least a pair of points by their name on the scoresheet. Eight Vikings grabbed rebounds led by Lucas with seven while six made steals.

Now 6-9 for the season, the Vikings will host Hoisington on Tuesday.
