SPLIT WITH BOTH SALINA LAKEWOOD AND HUTCHINSON
By William
A quick catch-up on the McPherson Middle School 7th grade boys basketball teams as they played Salina Lakewood on Thursday and split a pair of games with the ‘A’ team wining 46-35 while the ‘B’ team lost 42-23.
A week earlier on Thursday, February 11 the 7th grade Junior Pups split another set of games with the ‘A’ team pulling out a one-point 30-29 victory while the ‘B’ was beaten 55-30.
Here are the game summaries:
7TH GRADE JUNIOR PUPS vs Salina Lakewood, Thursday, February 18
7th GRADE ‘A’ TEAM:
SCORE: JUNIOR PUPS 46, Salina Lakewood 35
JUNIOR PUPS ‘A’ TEAM INDIVIDUAL SCORING: Jett Pyle – 26; Cade Strathman – 7; Paxton Ingels – 6; Kaizer Kanitz – 3; Jackson Anderson – 2; Cowen Huggard – 2.
In the 7th grade ‘A’ game on Thursday, the Junior Pups scored a 46-35 win as Jett Pyle poured in 26 points.
HEAD COACH PAUL REICHENBERGER REFLECTIONS: “I was extremely proud with how the boys played tonight. The game was close until the end of the fourth quarter. Jett (Pyle) iced the game with eight consecutive free throws to end the game. He dominated the game before those free throws and was leading our team to a solid victory tonight. Overall, I was very impressed with our defensive effort. I challenged the boys to hold teams under 35 points each night and we have been able to do that lately. We will look to keep our momentum rolling as we prepare for Derby on Monday.”
7th GRADE ‘B’ TEAM:
SCORE: Salina Lakewood 42, JUNIOR PUPS 23
JUNIOR PUPS ‘B’ TEAM INDIVIDUAL SCORING: Jaydn Mari – 7; Ethan Harrington – 5; Braydon Holt – 3; Teigan Haynes – 2; Trevor Pontious – 2; Sean Solofra – 2; Zavier Flores – 2.
COACH GRANT BARRETT REFLECTIONS: “Another game where the score does not match the effort that the guys gave tonight. Each game we’ve shown improvement and seeing out progress from the very first game of the season against Lakewood, to tonight’s game makes me very proud of how far we have come as a team. I am looking forward to playing our best basketball as we go into our last week of the season.”
7TH GRADE JUNIOR PUPS vs. Hutchinson, Thursday, February 11
7th GRADE ‘A’ TEAM:
SCORE: JUNIOR PUPS 30, Hutchinson 29
7TH GRADE JUNIOR PUPS ‘A’ TEAM INDIVIDUAL SCORING: Cade Strathman – 12; Kaizer Kanitz – 6; Jett Pyle – 5; Paxton Ingels – 5; Jackson Anderson – 2.
HEAD COACH PAUL REICHENBERGER REFLECTIONS: “Hutchinson came out with a really solid game plan. Their 2-3 zone held our offense in check most of the night as we really struggled to knock down threes tonight. Even though we struggled to make a shot, I am prouid of the boys for finding a way to win another close game. Cade (Strathman) came up big tonight with 12 points and some great defensive plays. Overall, I thought our defensive energy was excellent tonight led by Kaizer (Kanitz) and Jett (Pyle) who both really got after it tonight on defense. Our tournament over the weekend was cancelled.”
7th GRADE JUNIOR PUPS ‘B’ TEAM:
SCORE: Hutchinson 55, JUNIOR PUPS 30
7TH GRADE JUNIOR PUPS ‘B’ TEAM INDIVIDUAL SCORING: Ethan Harrington – 10; Kaden Godwin – 6; Carter Boesker – 4; Carlton Giacobbi – 3; Cameron Buckbee – 3; Sean Solofra – 2; Jaydn Mari – 2.
COACH GRANT BARRETT REFLECTIONS: “Even though the score shows that we lost, the boys have made the stride I knew they could make. We were able to score a season high 30 points and executed a few of our plays. We still need to work on sliding our feet, and playing defense without fouling, but I am proud of the way that the boys came out and competed.”
