STUCKY, UNRUH, WIGGERS LEAD EAGLES

MARION – It was the small, missed opportunities that cost the Elyria Christian boys at Marion on Thursday as they lost the road game 44-35.

Only down by two, 13-11, at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles were only down one at 18-17 heading into the halftime break before losing steam in the final quarter and being handed the final nine-point loss.

“Tonight, we came up short against Marion who we beat back in January,” explained Eagle Head Coach Zach Goodrich. “I thought our level of effort and desire matched our performance in January, but we just didn’t capitalize on the plays we needed to get a win this time around. We were able to find some success driving to the basket when our three-point shot was not falling.”

Zach Stucky led the Eagles in scoring with 11 while Josef Hobson chipped in with eight which included a pair of three pointers while also being the quick hands-on defense with four steals.

Ben Unruh and Keyan Wiggers led the Elyria effort in the paint as they both pulled down seven rebounds in the game.

Speaking of his players and team, Coach Goodrich concluded his game reflections by adding, “Zach (Stucky) and Kaden (Aroum) battled hard and I was really pleased and proud of their effort tonight. I thought overall we competed hard but just did not have the legs to put together a complete game. The small, missed opportunities like layups we should have hit or not closing out hard on their good shooters, all added up to give us the loss tonight. We will look to rebound and have more complete games next week.”

Now 11-7 for the season, the Eagles have a tough week ahead as they play host to Berean Academy on Tuesday before traveling to Little River on Thursday to face the number-one ranked team in Class 1A.
