OLANDER, BOUGHFMAN, ECK LEAD LITTLE RIVER

By William

LITTLE RIVER – It was all Little River girls from the opening tip to the final buzzer on Thursday as the Lady Redskins buried Goessel with a 57-23 win.

The Lady Redskins put Goessel in an impossible hole in the first quarter by out scoring the visitors 24-0 before taking a 37-10 lead into the halftime break and then cruising in for the final 34-point victory.

“We played very well to open the game,” pointed out Lady Redskin head coach Brent Clark. “Our defense was extremely strong again tonight. Offensively we started the game by putting up 24 points in the first quarter as Lily (Boughfman) and Aubrey (Olander) led the way with 18 of those points. We had a big size advantage at the post and took advantage of it. I thought we shared the ball well in this game.”

Little River did make it a team effort as they dished out 14 assists on 24 field goals made, including four from Ashley Stephenson.

Freshman sensation Aubrey Olander once again took the team lead in scoring with 14 points while Lily Boughfman and Alaina Eck joined her in double figures with 12 and 10 points.

Boughfman led the team in the paint by blocking six shots and pulling down seven rebounds while Olander grabbed six rebounds and made four steals.

Coach Clark concluded his reflections on the dominating win by saying, “This team is very unselfish and at times too much so. We are playing really good basketball at the right time of the season.”

With the win, the Lady Redskins are now 15-3 for the season and clinched the Wheat State League title with an 8-0 league record. Little River will be on the road Friday at Inman.
