HECKEL HITS FOR 19

By William

It was a rough night on Thursday for the Inman boys as they looked to make up for a missed game by playing SE of Saline on Thursday and might have had it not been for a huge third quarter by SE of Saline that powered them to a 60-55 win over the Teutons.

Inman held a slim one-point, 17-16 lead at the end of the first quarter before stretching it out to an eight-point, 32-24 advantage going into the halftime break.

After the break though, SE of Saline came out on fire with their offense and outscored the Teutons 24-8 to turn the tables on the scoreboard and take an eight-point lead for themselves and then they hung on to a late Teuton rally to get the final five-point victory over Inman.

Tanner Heckel was most of the Teuton offense as he put up 19 points while Derick Johnson used a pair of three-pointers to almost reach double digits with nine and Mason Carter finished with eight.

“We picked up a game tonight and I knew it was going to be a tough game,” explained Teuton Head Coach Brett Froese in his post-game reflections. “We have played such a hard schedule this year I thought why not, let us go play another really good team. We played well tonight and really attacked their man full court pressure early and got good looks in transition. We had a really nice first half, but we got outplayed in the third quarter. Everything we did right in the first half to get the lead we just kind of lost focus on. We did not do a good job on the glass in the third and it cost us. Effort was outstanding tonight once again. Hopefully we have some gas left in the tank for playing Little River as they have also proven they can play with anybody.”

The loss drops the Teutons to just 7-10 for the season as they look to battle number one ranked and unbeaten Little River at home on Friday.
