APEL, HELINE, LYSELL-STEWART, ELSETH LEAD SMOKY VALLEY

LINDSBORG – It was good for two quarters before the Smoky Valley boys just could not keep up with the big guy in the middle for Hoisington and lost a rescheduled matchup on Thursday at home, 71-50.

Hoisington held a five-point first quarter lead before pushing it out to seven at 28-21 at the halftime break, the Smoky Valley was unable to slow them down as despite putting up 29 points in the final two quarters, they gave up 43 and lost by 21.

The Vikings were just unable to slow down the six-foot-seven guy in the middle for Hoisington as Drew Nicholson scored 32 points.

Despite the 21-point loss, the Vikings held their own and won the battle on the boards by pulling down 35 to just 22 for the visitors, but Smoky Valley turned the ball over 19 times.

Lukas Apel led the Vikings in the scorebook with 14 points while Ryan Heline and Haven Lysell-Stewart also reached double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

It was a team effort in the paint as Smoky Valley had four players grab at least five rebounds led by Jalen Elseth with eight, Lysell-Stewart with seven, Kade Blanchat had six and Apel pulled down five.

Now 6-10 for the year, the Vikings have no time to rest as they will be on the road Friday at Haven.
